Ndamukong Suh, DT

Colt McCoy, QB
Colt McCoy, QB

Overview

Started four years at Texas, but unfortunately was injured on the first series of his last game -- the National Championship.
2008 -- Walter Camp All-American & Player of the Year, Consensus All-American, Second Team All-Big 12
Strengths
College Football's all-time winningest QB. Tremendous intangibles. Intelligent and tough, and inspires teammates to play above their heads. Never quits and finds a way to rise to the occasion late in games. Very hard worker who studies his opponents as well as Texas' game plan. Can stick short to intermediate throws. Quick release. Excellent runner with deceptive quickness and speed. Great kid who's easy to root for.

Weaknesses
Borderline NFL-caliber arm. Looped a lot of lolipops to wide-open receivers at Texas, which won't get it done in the NFL. Doesn't throw a good deep ball. Mechanics fall apart with pressure in his face. Throws picks when pressured. Not big or rugged-looking. Knocked out of the National Championship game on the first series.

Projection
Will probably be a high pick based on his accomplishments, maybe even a first-rounder, but shouldn't be. Has some Joe Montana in him, but has less of an arm than Joe did. Ideally, will be drafted later by a good team that will let him sit and learn for several years. Smart and competitive enough to hold a clipboard, and may someday emerge. Wish he could have competed vs. Alabama; was off to a good start.
Ndamukong Suh, DT
Ndamukong Suh, DT, Nebraska
Strengths: Uses his hands extremely well and shows tremendous strength when fighting off blockers. He is able to stand up linemen, locate the football, and position himself to make the tackle. Displays good technique when using the swim and rip moves. He has good awareness and reads screens really well. Has good technique when in pursuit. Does a great job of penetrating into the backfield and can be absolutely disruptive at times. He plays very well against both the run and the pass, which is rare to find. He is able to also play DE in the 3-4 defensive system. He is an amazing playmaker, seems to always be around the football. In 08, he led the team in tackles, tackles for loss, sacks and was tied for the leader in interceptions.

Weaknesses: Often misses tackles. Sometimes, although he is quick for his size, he is not quick enough to catch the running back. He needs to work on his consistency; at times he can be extremely disruptive but then there are other times where he can get completely taken out of the play. He has had multiple knee injuries and surgeries which bring up huge concerns. He was flagged twice for dead ball personal fouls during a game vs Virginia Tech in 2008. The first of those two calls was questionable but the other one was clearly a penalty which shows a lack of discipline and self control.

Summary: Suh was dominant this year for Nebraska. He looked unblockable when they played against Texas this year and he has positioned himself to be one of the top players taken in this year's draft. He is an extremely powerful DT that is very versatile. He is able to stop the run as well as rush the passer. That is something that is very valuable for a defensive lineman. He has great awareness and is able to read plays really well. Suh can be absolutely unstoppable at times. The main area that Suh needs to improve on is his consistency. Consistency is hard to improve but it is extremely valuable. His injury history also will concern teams. Overall Suh is one of, if not, the best player in the country. He looked elite, dominant and clearly stands out in film. He proved he can stay healthy for this season and he will most likely be a top 3 lock this April.
