Encaustic paintings from my theme Bare Branches

Trees and branches have been the theme of my paintings since 2007. They began as realistic oil paintings. However as my interest grew, my focus begin shifting from trees to mainly rendering bare branches. Aiming to capture the visual architectural qualities of branches, I experimented with monoprints and soon shifted to the encaustic medium. Encaustic painting, also known as hot wax painting, involves using a hot damar resin and beeswax mixture to which colored pigments are added. The hot medium is then applied to a surface with brushes or metal too. Pigments can also be applied between the layers of encaustics. Each layers are fused with heat.
My collection of encaustic paintings began In February 2009 with my fist painting; Mid-day. I mixed my own encaustic to which I add oil paint for pigment.  As I continued experimenting with this medium, I started adding texture to the hot encaustic which resulted to the painting of Vincent’s Tree, an Homage to Vincent Van Gogh. In my newest encuastic works I introduced the same brush techniques, that I had used for my monoprints.  This gave me an oportunity to illustrate roots of trees, and the theme Bare Branches began to include uprooted trees. A video of Uprooted Tree #3 give the viewers an close-up look of my last painting.
My seven new encaustic paintings, as well as eighteen of my monoprints , all part of the Bare Branches theme, will be on exhibit at the Lemoore City council Chambers in Lemoore California. They will be on display from July 20th until the beginning of September. The reception will be on Thursday July 23 from 4:00- 7:00 PM
