HAUNTED HERITAGE CHAPTER 5
(Continued from last week)

BY ALBERT WILLIAMS

Reagent Town was built along the River Zombie

named after a maroon slave, or the negres maroons as

they were referred to in the local parlance. It had become

the industrial center of the island, but had retained its

traditional ways of life. It was a town where everyone

knew everyone else. It wasn’t long before the town folk

began to circulate rumors that another crazy woman was

in Reagent. Mentally ill persons usually were the butt of

cruel jokes and or did others regard other wise as being

posed by the devil.

I USED TO LIVE HERE ONCE by Albert Williams
"She was standing by the river looking at the stepping stones and remembering each one. There was the round unsteady stone, the pointed one, the flat one in the middle ‑‑ the safe stone where you could stand and look around. The next wasn't so safe for when the river was full the water flowed over it and even when it showed dry it was slippery. But after that it was easy and soon she was standing on the other side."  THE 1ST PARAGRAPH EXTRACT FROM  'I USED TO LIVE HERE ONCE'  A SHORT STORY  BY JEAN RHYS

Life for a human being is a mysterious journey with conflicting guidelines. Its like the  setting off on a boat trip with only the wide open ocean before you, but with 12 captains all offering different directions to reach your destiny. A destiny that you have not even decided as yet what it should be. For that reason, you juggle one idea against another all through your adolescent life until by fate, you settle for one occupation or another.

For those of us who discovered that we have the writer's itch, we somewhat gravitated towards  the nebulous field of literature, and indeed, some of us graduated to that hallowed status of being an 'author' The Commonwealth of Dominica is known for its rugged mountains, black-sanded beaches, easy, laid-back lifestyle, cadance and bouyon music, but only vaquely associated with one of her most famous authors: Jean Rhys.
