La Petite Rose: A Stigmatic Saint in Woonsocket5/29/2009 11:59:00 AMMarie Rose Ferron, is not a Saint, although many believe she should be. Born in the country side near Quebec, Canada to a devout Catholic family, Rose followed the path of her Lord. While tending the fields Rose's mother went into labor, Rose much like Jesus was born in a barn. Her mother dedicated each of her fifteen children to the Mysteries of the Rosary. Marie Rose being the tenth child honored the Crucifixion. Little Rose's birth seemed to be an omen that would follow her throughout her life.
Rose's spiritual experiences started at an early age, at four she saw the Child Jesus in a vision. He was carrying the cross and the look of melancholy on his face was so intense that it remained with her until the day she died. During her childhood Rose often communed with Jesus and the Virgin Mary as well as Saint Anthony of Padua. She always referred to her experiences as dreams, never speaking of them as a true spiritual "ecstacy" as the church does.
At the age of seven Rose had already begun to plead on behalf of lost souls and

sinners. Rose moved to Woonsocket soon after her spiritual awakenings. She began to present the wounds of Stigmata and although this phenomena alone did not sanctify her, her virtues did.
Rose would take on the pain of others, whether they be women in childbirth, heart disease, or cancers. She suffered in silence as she released others of their pain. Sr. Josefa Menendez of the Society of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Christ brought clarity to Rose in 1923 by explaining that she was a Victim Soul. This meant that Rose took on the sins of others and through her suffering made reparation for those sins. By the age of twenty Rose was bedridden, due to her illnesses and wounds.

On May 11th, 1936 after devoting her life to healing the people around her, Rose left this world to join her Lord at His side, she passed away with a smile on her lips. This came as no suprise to those around her as at the age of twenty-six she prophecied that she would pass away at thirty-three.
A local priest came to pay homily to Rose after her passing and made his own prediction stating that:
"You will have a little Saint in Woonsocket."
People still pray to Little Rose when in their hour of need. When Beckah and I went, it was a beautiful feeling around her grave. A sense of peace and contentment

overcame the both of us and the smell of roses and lilacs permeated the air in that spot and nowhere else. Her grave is located at the Precious Blood Cemetery in Woonsocket.
A book was written about Little Rose entitled "She Wears A Crown Of Thorns with the help of her Spiritual Director Reverend Boyer.
